update from Chris

Hi all:
I know I now, you want Hapoo back! But sorry, I am not even back home, so
she still has to bear with me steeling her space. I just wanted to update
you on what I have been up to.
Shadow and I had a wonderful Christmas Eve. He had located a near church
where we could attend German service. That was quite different from what I
am used to at home, but at least I could sing the songs that so much belong
to my Christmas at home. And then we wet home and my lovely Shadow prepared
a huge fish dinner, which was so so delicious! Then a friend came over, and
we chatted a little while, before we just relaxed and Shadow read a bt of a
book for me that we had just started reading. I love it when somebody reads
for me, and Shadow loves reading for somebody. Yeah right Hapoo, you love
eating, but that doesn't mean that I love feeding you as much as you want to
eat - just telling you! Anyway, where was I? And did I tell you that I also
met a nice youlg lady who carried a cuddly puppy around all the time? Puppy
was fun to look at. He started getting active when we sat down t have
dinner. He wanted to eat my shirt and pants, but the lady told him off and
played with him. Only after he had calmed down she started eating, that poor
lady! But puppy rode on busses with us and explored Shadow's school grass
and behaved so well, given that he was only 14 weeks old.

O o o, we're rambling... Didn't I want to tell you about my recent events?
The day after Christmas we were invited to a dinner party. At the place
where we were there were so many peacocks, it was interesting. Had you been
with us, Hapoo, you would've stared them down, and I would have to keep a
close eye on you all the time. And there was a cat, too, but they didn't mid
each other. The people were really nice, and the food was, once again,
really delicious.

Then the friend of Shadow's first drove us home to pick up our bags, ad then
offered to take us to the airport. And there the funny thing happened. My
rolling bag got caught behind a post that holds the rope that forms the
people cueues. I thought I was blocking the other people's entering path, so
I wanted to hurry to pick up my bag. And bang, I hit my forehead on top of
that post thing. Man it bled like crazy! Shadow was mad at me for wanting to
pick up that bag of mine, but I think he was more worried about me hurting
myself. We checked in and had somebody call the airport's medical service.
That person was really nice and took care of my bleeding wound. We had a
wonderful flight to where Shadow's mom lives, and they al came to pick us
up.

After a cup of tea the mom looked at my wound, cleaned it and put on a new
plaster, before we went to sleep. The next day we went shopping. O folks,
the stret was crazy! There was no way I could have told when to cross, it
was so noisy! I would have had to look out that people don't step on your
feet, my dear black woofer, it was really packed. But it's always like that
the day after Christmas day. I found a nice warm long winter jacket, it's
perfect for snow times back home. Maybe you can persuade me to stay out
longer now. And today was the day of the book stores. We had decided not to
have my wound stitched, because it is already healing fast and well. So we
went out and went into two book stores, where I found nice books on tape and
a few on tennis and some space ship stuff. I won't bore you with that,
because it's no fod and no fun for now. But, listen up, I did find a book
with Hapoo biscuit recipes that are healthy. I'll hopefully manage to make
you some once the other ones are finished.

Then we went and had dinner at a popular pizza place, and we were joined by
three other people. It was fun talking to them. We took a lot of pizza back
home. I'm sure you would have sat in the back of the car smelling that box
and wondering if you could get some of that delicious stuff. And now finally
I am back home, looking forward to yet another eventful and busy day. You
have a good time, dear human readers, woofers and Hapoo - cheers, Chris:-)

Hi Hapoo

Hi my dear woofer:
I know this is your space, but I thought I should give you something to read
when you come back ad demand your right on the computer keyboard.
I can tell you, you will have a lot to sniff through when I come back. I
have, of course, bought you loads of Hapoo treats. Nono my dear, you are not
going to get them dumped into your food bowl or filled into your treat
dispenser!
These are the yummy treats that you only get when yu work, and after the
clicker has made its promising sound. Well you know what I'm talking about,
don't you?
You are also going to receive a cool tug and fetch rope - a thick one with
three knots, so you can decide where to pull from. And maybe holding that
rope in your mouth and carrying it back to me isn't that easy for you
anymore, so it's a bit more work for my Lady Energy.
And dear jealous one, have I told you that I saw a dog? It was another guide
dog, but shorter than you ad not as long, a Labrador and 11 years old - a
really sweet old woofer lady. It was fun, and I know, you would've made
noises at her!
O and Hapoo, I finally found you another raincoat - hear me - raincoat! Yes,
yo aren't getting around that - I want you dry in rain so my lazy self
doesn't have all that much work to do drying you off three times a day and
not knowing which towel to take next. Don't grumble, you already get enough
treats!
And Shadow? Yes, Shadow's doing fine. He sleeps a lot, but not too much, and
we go and shop or see nice places, talk about history, or he takes me to
wherever he is nvited to. I'm having a good time, and I think I can convince
him to come over again to see you. And then I am sure, you playful Hapoo
will find him offguard to lick his hand! But don't tell him I said that with
a grin on my face! I can kiss him for you if you want, cheers, Chris.

update of all sorts

Hi all:
You know that Hapoo is in the kennels now, so I am writing to keep you
informed of my activities. Thursday morning we had breakfast as always, I
walked Hapoo, and then mom and I took her to her usual kennels. When Hapoo
saw where we were going, she jumped up on mefrom the back. She only doesthat
when she really doesn't want to do what she is supposed to.

So I took the time and took her to her kennel herself. There is a wooden
platform right by the door, where she loves to sit, stand and lie and look
out through the wired gate. We had put her blanket down there, and after a
little while I told her to jump up on that bench. And once she was calmly
on, we left her. She was allright from then on, she didn't howel or
anything, just a few dry woofs to see if somebody came to let her out.

Then I had another nice time at home, cleaning up and packing my suitcase
with my mom's help. It's nice to run around without a dog in your way all
the time, anciously following every move you make. I could also leave all
doors open, another short dogless time bonus. For the first time in ages I
managed to clean my apartment, sort out all the trash and vacuum before I
left. And today we went for a really long walk in the beautiful warm sunny
weather, on the beach of the Pacific Ocean. Shadow even found nice-looking
seashells that he picked up for me and him. And at night we went out to have
dinner again, because we saw some of Shadow's friends.

And guess what, the folks in the restaurant forgt to bring my pizza. So I
shared with Shadow and two other folks, and that was fine with me.

I really enjoy the sun of California, I hope it'll staay for much longer. In
the meantime I wish snow for you in Germany, so you have something to look
forward to when you go on your runs. And I bet the nice folks at your kennel
will find you a good play-mate!

I'm off this Hapoo business for now. Have a wonderful time wherever you are,
cheers, Chris:-)

At night, after a nice coffee break with mom and a final shower, I
accompanied her to a meeting she had From there we went to the city to gass
up, and then hit the road. Two hours of speeding rather than driving, and we
rrived at the sister's house.

Hapoo my dear, this is the first time I missed you. Your bddy, the sister's
dog, was waiting at the gate. He didn't bark at first. And when he attempted
to, I just hushed him with a quiet word. Sister let us in througbh the main
gate, and then she let your buddy off his leash. And guess what he did: He
came running with a ball for me to throw. But sorry buddy, it was too late.
So he just got a scratch on the head and that was all.

The next morning mom, sister and I went to the airport. We had a cup of
coffee, looked at a shop or two, and then sister and I went to check in
before returning to mom. Mom was really tired. She hadn't eaten any
breakfast, because she was to be examined on her stomach later on. Sister
then took me to a nice spot near the door where I'd be boarding the plane,
and then she left.

Both my flights were uneventful, and all the hosts were nice. In Shadow's
country, the USA, where all folks speak English, I was pushed all the way in
a weelchair. I didn't want to, butg the lady insisted. Allright, so she had
to push some 140 pounds of me around the airport, until Shadow came and
greeted me. From then on I was allowed to walk on my own again.

Shadow had rented a car to pick me up. We went home first, so I could take a
shower and sleep a little, and then we went out to have dinner.

Busy day

Hi all:
Last night Chris fed me early, but I didn't know why. No suitcase out,
nothing So this morning we went for the Hapoo walk earlier than usual,
and then we ran to catch the morning train to the city. Chris was quite
strict with me today. We walked long distances on our own. Mom didn't
walk ahead for me to read her body cues. I've become good at that. So I
really had to do all the work. We first went to the vet's office. I
safely walked Chris past flower pots and people, up the stairs and into
the office. The vet says Chris is strong, because she can lift me up
high on the examining table.

I don't like that table. Up there the vet looks into my eyes, ears,
mouth, hears me breething and vaccinates me. I don't mind injections,
but I hate it when she scratches my teeth and stares into my eyes.
Apart from my likes and dislikes the vet said I am okay. She just
scratched on one of my teeth, that was all. Then Chris picked me up and
put me down on the floor. I immediately ran to mom for pets - mom is the
pet master - mom means no work, but cuddles.

Then they let me run through the park a little, and then it was back in
harness. We walked along a busy street with streets crossing. I ran over
one of them and walked over one curb. Naturally, Chris let me rework the
street and stumbled up the curb. That's enough to scare me, so I return
willingly and do better. From then on I never overran a curb, and Chris
was overall satisfied with my work.

Then, however, we arrived in the busy part of the city. Chris only took
me on leash. It was crazy, I couldn't possibly have found my way, and
Chris wouldn't have known her way either. So mom navigated and we
followed. Chris bought a lot of things. In one store a lady greeted us,
and Chris put me in a down stay before she disappeared behind one of the
familiar curtains th re-appear wearing different clothes. She took her
seat outside for mom to sit on, right beside me. Mom told people they
could pet me, but Chris said they could only pet me after mom had
removed the harness. So mom did that, and I received many pets - yippee,
pets! Then I lay down and got slightly bored while waiting for Chris.
She ended up walking out with a few new clothes both she and mom were
happy about. And they also liked the service they got, they said.
Then it was a bit more walking and one more store, and then back home.
And at home after Chris had slept a little, we got a Hapoo package.
Qute unfortunately, that Hapo package only contained food for me for
later, so it disappeared in the basement. Then there was something else
that was not edible. Chris says it's to prevent the car from bgetting
too dirty from my paws - as if I was dirty! Mud is only natural! And
besides, I didn't order the rain, Chris, you must've done that!
Chris is sleeping in the living room. She says the bed is no longer for
sleeping, but for putting thngs on it to pack in a suitcase. O suitcase
- means I'm not going with her, because she has not packed any Hapoo
food <howl>
But allright, Chris'll keep you updated! And until I am back home I will
try to remain in your memory by generously offering licks, woofs, jumps
and paws, Yours, Hapoo.

The cat adventure

Hi all:
Here's something that happened last Friday already - but you know Chris,
she won't always let me type.
I knew we were going somewhere, because Chris spent some time deciding
what to wear in the bedroom. Then she showered, put on her typical
going-ut-parfume, and then a car stopped and honked. So she had me sit
in front of the outside door and went out herself. However, she returned
without the package that was delivered, and told me to come outside. She
and the mailman tried to show me something, when all of a sudden I
discovered a cat.
O Hapoo job, race and drive the intruder away - yippee, what a good run
to stretch my legs! I had to drive away the cat twice, before I settled
nicely beside Chris while she signed for the package.
Chris is just so afraid of cats that I have to do all the defending if I
don't want her to die, or so she says! Quite unfortunately, the package
was not one of my wonder packages - just smelled like boring paper!
We did go out, all the three of us, sat in a restaurant, where the
humans had food and I got water, and then went into a theater. I got to
lie under mom's and Chris' seats. And when I got up the folks beside
Chris were quite amazed I was there, too. Guess they've never seen a
woofer in a theater, eh?
T was fun all in all, but I was happy to be back home and enjoy the
silence of my Hapoo house.
Cheers, Hapoo.

The final part

Hi all:
I think I still owe you part three of our week.

When our course ended, Chris and I went by train for only two hours,
only to be greeted by mom and the sister. I was a nice girl, I didn't
jump or squeek at all. And when we arrived, Chris let me run and play
with the sister's dog, my buddy. That was fun, and in the yard there was
even snow to roll and toss and turn in <yippee>

Inside the house things were slightly more boring. Mom ran nback and
forth between the kitchen where I had slept the last time, and the
kitchen where sister and Chris were working on something. Mom carried
trays full of yummy sweet stuff from one room to another, sometimes they
were cold, sometimes hot. I never got to ty any of the biscuits - I
guess they weren't dog biscuits after all. They seemed to be baking
forever and more, it was amazing!

The next day continued much like this - mom and Chris working with the
biscuits. And then Chris was supposed to teach the nephew some English,
but he wasn't at all fond of that idea. Chris says it's normal and she
wasn't concerned.

In the afternoon I got a change from the yard and kitchen watching - we
went out into a mall that was crazy with people. Even though Chris had
me in harness, it was impossible for me to follow mom or the sister. So
she just took me on leash and let the harness handle rest on my back.
Really, folks were running everywhere, even the humans had a hard time
navigating. O for once I was so so happy when I was allowed to go back
outside. But I smelled something - I must have earned myself a huge bag
of treat treats. I only get these when I have done something well, so I
really love them!

The day after that we went back home home with mom and her car. I had to
stay at Chris' feet again, but she says I am getting a good routine at
that. But I was sure happy when I could get off and go for the Hapoo
walk on my beloved field route with all the familiar smells. There are
even cows back in the meadow that I can stare at.
That brings back memories of Grandpa, mom's pet dog, who never comes
back anymore. With him, I'd sometimes herd the cows in one corner, and
that was such fun! But without him I don't dare, and after all, he was
the major herder, not I! Woofwoof, I want my Grandpa back so badly
sometimes!
Cheers, Hapoo.
